Diet rich in potassium and calcium:
- Increase water consumption throughout the day to keep well hydrated.
- Potassium and calcium rich foods will keep the level of these two much required nutrients at optimum levels which preventing the cramping episodes.
Some preventive measures are:
- Dehydration can cause leg cramps. It very important to stay well hydrated during workouts. So drink plenty of fluids before, during and after excercising.
- Stretching prior to starting any excercise routine is extremely important. Cause stretching help to relax muscles and thus prevent leg cramps. When beginning a workout regime, it is imperative that you do some stretching first gradually. Any sudden increase or changes in physical activity levels can cause leg cramps.
- Rolled up bed sheets or blankets at the feet to prevent toes and feet from pointing downward while sleeping.
- Riding a stationary bicycle for a few minutes before bedtime can prevent leg cramps from developing during the night.
